TENZING CLIMBING FESTIVAL TEASER COMP

LancasterWall / Feb 8th

‘The most exciting comp I have ever been to.’

OVERVIEW

Join us on the 8th Feb at LancasterWall for the most exciting climbing comp you’ll have ever been a part of. In 2024 the Tenzing Extravaganza was born. The brand new team relay format brought energy like we’ve never seen before. It was so well received, Tenzing are now taking the concept on tour!

There’s plenty on during the day with workshops happening around the centre and we’ve got Louis Parkinson mc’ing you through the festivities. Tenzing will be slinging cans out like its the wild west to keep energy at a maximum.

This comp is all about time, mixed gender teams of 4 will battle each other in a relay race final on 4 different styled boulders. To get to make the finals, teams will participate in a scramble style qualifiers, each climber trying to set their fastest time on 4 unique blocks.

The winners will win 4 tickets to the Tenzing Climbing Festival at HarroWall, London in March, travel included. They can then pit themselves against the best teams from around the country to try and take top spot in the grand final.

PRIZES

The winning team will be getting there hands on:

  • 4 tickets to the Tenzing climbing festival in London
  • 1 months membership to LCC centres per participant
  • 1 month supply of Tenzing
  • Other Tenzing goodies

COMP FORMAT

4 boulders will be set in the following styles for each round:

No-hands slab
Crack climbing
Campus boulder
Dynamic moves

QULAIFIERS: 1pm – 3pm

Teams must be mixed gender. Each team member has three attempts to get their fastest time for each boulder. Team scores are then collated – each team member may only provide the time for ONE boulder. The teams with the fastest total time are into the Tenzing Extravaganza Final!

FINALS: 4pm

This is a relay race final with the winning team being the team that provides the fastest time to complete all four boulders (as a team). Each team member will only climb one boulder so you must decide beforehand who is doing which boulder. Teams have time to view the finals boulders before deciding which team member take on which boulder. The team with the slowest combined qualifying time goes first.

Each team member lines up behind their chosen boulder in a marked box. When the buzzer goes the first climber can start their climb. They have 3 minutes to top the boulder. When the boulder is topped and bell rung the next climber can leave their box and start the climb. If a team member leaves their box before the bell is rung they will incur a time penalty. If 3 minutes passes and the boulder has not been topped, they stop climbing, and the next climber starts their boulder.
