“Brilliant week out in some of the Lake District’s most scenic climbing spots. Andy is a great instructor with an impressive amount of knowledge and experience, who was able to get all of us to complete our first trad lead climbs. Can’t recommend it enough.”

Frequently Asked Questions

  • I’ve not climbed much before, which option would be best? A Climbing Adventure Day could be the perfect option. No experience necessary, but a reasonable level of fitness will help you get the most out of your day as you try bouldering, roped climbing and abseiling all under the expert guidance of our instructor.
  • I’m looking to learn specific outdoor climbing skills. Is that possible? An Exclusive Climbing Adventure Day can be tailored to your specific requirements. We recommend you email us, so we can match the date and appropriate instructor.
  • I’ve only ever bouldered, will I be ok on a Classic Rock Experience? Absolutely! If you have been bouldering for around 6 months you will have all the strength and techniques needed. Our qualified guide will teach you the outdoor roped climbing skills you need outside and give you the opportunity to experience some amazing quality routes.
  • What’s the difference between Classic Rock Experience and Classic Rock Skills? The Experience course is aimed at those making the transition from indoors to outdoors, who want to learn new roped climbing skills and enjoy being led up some classic routes in the Lakes. The Skills course is specifically aimed at those who want to start trad lead climbing and already have roped climbing skills.
  • Is the equipment provided? Absolutely! We provide all the climbing equipment you will need for your course, or you are free to bring your own. You may find your regular climbing shoes, especially those used for bouldering are a little on the snug side for trad climbing, but we can lend you a more comfy pair.
  • What do I need to bring? The weather in the mountains can often be unpredictable! We recommend lots of layers; warm jacket and hat; possibly waterproofs; walking boots / sturdy approach shoes; packed lunch, snacks and drinks; and a rucksack to carry everything.
  • How hard will the climbing be? We always start fairly easy, warming up and getting used to the rock friction and features, from there on it depends on the abilities of the group.
  • Are the instructors qualified? We only use qualified guides and instructors ranging from British Mountain Guides to CWDI depending on the requirements of the group. Please ask for more information.
  • Can under 18’s participate? Climbing adventure days are perfect for families with older children aged 14+. Please bear in mind that all under 18’s need to be accompanied by a participating adult at a ratio of 1 adult to a max of 2 children.
